Distributed leadership

noun

A leadership approach in which the focus shifts from the actions of a single leader to the function of leadership and the sharing of that function among a team. The phrase is often used less as a model that can be implemented and more of a lens through which to study the practice of leadership. The phrase does carry an emphasis on dividing responsibilities and decisions among a variety of committees, teams, or individuals with fewer decisions being made as a whole group. This is somewhat different from collaborative leadership and collective leadership, which place greater emphasis on group decisions.
