Community schools

noun

Schools that partner with organizations, government entities, and other partners to support students and families and improve student success. The schools are often centers of community in their neighborhoods, have expanded hours and after-school enrichment programs, and strive to meet the needs of their students beyond academics (such as housing, health, mental health, food and nutrition, and more). One of the five pillars of community schools is shared leadership. Many teacher-powered schools are also community schools and vice versa.
