EdVisions Off Campus (Henderson, MN): Peer Evaluation Rubric

In some teacher-powered schools, teachers who have complete autonomy over evaluation methords invite feedback on teachers’ performance from multiple sources, including peers, students, and parents–and all of it is considered part of teachers’ evaluation. EdVisions Off Campus is one of those schools.

EdVisions Off Campus teachers shared their peer-to-peer teacher evaluation rubric with the Center for Teaching Quality as an example for other teacher-powered schools to build from. The rubrics measure skills and abilities necessary to implement their school’s distinctive online learning program, as well as every teacher’s individual value added to the team (in other words, what skills and abilities does each individual bring to the table that other teachers on the team are not able to provide?). On a four-point scale, teachers rate their peers in areas such as content knowledge, evaluation skills, ability to assist students in developing project proposals, reflective practice, coaching and advising ability (with respect to students), and organization.

The rubric is used in October, February, and May of each year. This helps teachers track progress toward goals over time
